Drew Locke needed a big game after the Denver Broncos Week was filled with 12 mask-wearing sniffs that left the club facing an NFL opponent without a quarterback. Adding to the questions and doubts revolving around Lok was the reality that the Broncos had lost two in a row.
In Sunday’s match against the Carolina Panthers, Lake responded to the bell loudly, poorly, completing almost 0 78% of his passes to 200 yards and winning the Broncos 32-27 with a career-high four touchdowns. He also posted his career-best single-game passer rating at 149.5, the third-best rating in the Broncos history.
The only two quarterbacks who have posted better passenger ratings in Broncos uniforms are Peyton Manning and John Elway.
Highest single-game passer rating in the history of the Broncos
- Peyton Manning vs. San Francisco (2014): 157.2
- John Alway v. Arizona (1995): 156.0
- Drew Lock at Carolina (2020): 149.5
- John Alway at Cleveland (1993): 147.5
- Pitton Manning vs. Philadelphia (2013): 146.0

Adding to the sweetness of Lok’s achievement in Week 14 was the fact that he didn’t throw any hurdles, although he turned the ball around when he was kicked out of the belt and messed up. Lost, Lock’s powerhouse on the road in Carolina can’t move from the demonstration.
He was the one who requested the doctor for a second year quarterback who would collect more than his fair share of critics and obstructors. L’K Week 14’s performance was made even more remarkable by the fact that the Broncos made three fresh starts on the offensive line, playing Calvin Anderson on the left instead of the weather Garrett Balls, colored Netan Muti on the right guard, and Elijah Wilkinson on the right.
That was Anderson’s second NFL start and Muti’s start.
Locke was only knocked out once a day, although he was not run out of seven by the Body Panthers. A true striker in the Broncos quarterback, showed calm and advanced as a decision maker.
Five completions of 25-plus yards, including two long touchdown bombs from rookie wideout KJ Hamler, Locke’s deep deep-ball accuracy was on-point and greatly improved. Luck didn’t push him and took what the defense gave him.
All the advice and occasional lectures from his mentors, like Elve, offensive coordinator Pat Pete Shurmur and QBS coach Mike Shula, finally arrived home by the 14th week. Walking in that line of being aggressive even while defending the ball is an art Luck is still trying to master.
“It sucks, because the ones you end up with compulsively are in the games you really want, really bad,” Lock said in a post-game in Carolina. “You want to win so badly that you end some things outside of character. It’s about staying calm and focused in those games. When you make the right decision, and I preach here a little bit the last two weeks.”
Tip your cap on the lap to overcome some serious adversity and the rising tide of nayayers to lead his team to another uneasy win on the road. With the remaining three games remaining, the arrow will point to Lock K as the Broncos lost to the Kansas City Chiefs last week and Lock turned the ball twice, he actually played a solid game against an elite opponent.
Except for the atrocities of the 12 Saints of the Week, Lok played very well before the Miami game. Perhaps, this positive attitude is to stay here.
