Expensive advice
Draymond Green could hear from the league office soon, if he has not already done so, regarding a likely offensive violation following comments on Devin Booker during Inside the NBA on Friday.
“It’s great to play Book well and play Phoenix well, but get my husband out of Phoenix. It’s not good for him, it’s not good for his career. Sorry Chuck, but they need to get Book from Phoenix. I need my husband to go somewhere so he can play and win great basketball all the time, because he’s that kind of player. ”
Green was not fined last season when she said Marquese Chriss was in “some pretty tough situations” in Phoenix for the 2018 trade to Houston, adding, “No one even owes these s-ty franchises.”
Like Chriss, Green is not wrong about Booker … but it will cost him.
Guice is gone
Derrius Guice was arrested Friday at 5 a.m. ET on domestic battery charges stemming from three separate incidents several months ago. Two hours after he was arrested, he was released by the Washington Football Team, and finished a two-plus-year run that included just 42 picks for the previous draft for the second round.
From SI’s Ben Pickman:
“According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, via ESPN, the charges against Guice came from three separate incidents of domestic violence earlier this year. The incidents occurred on February 14, March 13 and April 17 at his home in Ashburn, Va.
The incidents were first reported to the Montgomery Police Department in Maryland, where the victim lives. According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, it was made aware of the allegations on July 22. They are investigating the incident in coordination with the Montgomery County Police Department. On Friday, Guice was released on a $ 10,000 uninsured bond. ”
Abuse in College Sports
Texas Tech launched an investigation into alleged abuse in the women’s basketball program, led by third-year head coach Marlene Stollings, several months ago. The findings of the study, presented to athletics director Kirby Hocutt on June 29, were apparently not enough to warrant a coaching change. Five weeks later, a USA Today article was enough to warrant a coaching change.
The article, which alleged verbal, physical and sexual harassment and abuse against Stollings, strength and fitness coach Ralph Petrella, and other assistant coaches, led to Stollings’ dismissal Thursday.
‘Have we let these girls down? We have that, ”Hocutt told a news conference Friday night. “And I will improve it.”
Step one of improvement: call them “women”, not “girls.”
One day later, Colorado State stopped all football activities after an article in the Colorado State filed explosive allegations against Steve Addazio’s program:
CSU footballers and university athletics department staff say coaches have told players not to report COVID-19 symptoms, threaten players with reduced playing time if they are quarantined and claim that CSU changes the trace reports of contacts around players to practice. “
Announcing the suspension on Friday, athletics director Joe Parker said they also received accusations of racism and verbal abuse. FootballScoop reported that the allegations were not exclusive to Addazio’s staff, saying they “involved both current football staff and former staff led by Mike Bobo …. all in addition to the athletics department under Joe Parker’s watch.”
