Dragon Age 4 made a surprising appearance during Gamescom Opening Night Live, and gave us another small teaser of BioWare’s expected return to Thedas.
Studio general manager Casey Hudson opened the segment, confirming that the game is still in “early production”, and was quickly followed by teasing teasers from multiple staffs tuned in to new snippets of concept art.
“In the next Dragon Age, you get a chance to see new things, new places, and interact with people who also lived and grew up in these spaces,” says executive producer Mark Darrah.
“For the game we’re working on right now, we want to tell a story of what happens when you have no power,” adds lead writer Patrick Weekes. “What happens if the people in charge are not ready to tackle the problems?”
Story director John Epler also pleaded that “the things you can expect in the next episode will be stories that focus on the people around you and the friends and family you have made.”
This is the last piece of Dragon Age goodness since the EA Play Live event back in June, which revealed four recordings of concept art and confirmed that it will take us on an adventure that is expected on the Xbox Series X en PS5. The artwork gave us our first good look at some of the upcoming sequels since the first announcement of the teaser trailer during the Game Awards 2018. Since then, many bite-sized plagues and minor developments have come to light over the next adventure, but it ‘It’s probably still a long time before we see a gameplay in action.
With a dark atmosphere and the red lyrium-surrounding surroundings, the concept art left us with more questions than answers, but it certainly pointed to the tantalizing little window in the direction in which the next game could go. Today’s party art filled in some details, but enough mystery remains.
Darrah recently took to Twitter to confirm that progress is still being made about the development of Dragon Age 4, even working with BioWare at home as a result of COVID-19.
