The highly anticipated Snatch Game of Love finally arrived on Friday Drag Race All Stars, even if you didn’t feel much love in the workshop. From some grim predictions to a possible conspiracy, the real challenge was played behind the scenes.
It all started with the dramatic drama that everyone voted for Mayhem Miller to be sent home, including Mayhem. “You never give up on your dreams!” Shea Coulee was furious. Then Miz Cracker changed the conversation to a discussion about the season’s top three, asking her fellow queens to step in with the top favorites. Based on performance, Cracker was named the likely winner, with Jujubee and Shea following closely. (As I said, I agree that those queens are the first three, but I’m not sure to put them in that order.)
Upon entering the Snatch game, the queens’ emotions were all over the map. Describing herself as “the bottom of the power,” India Ferrah felt the pressure and promised viewers, “I still have a lot of tricks up my sleeve … and my pants cut.” Cracker, meanwhile, arguably too arrogant. “Even if I hit rock bottom today, you guys can’t get rid of me,” he said. “I just win!” And speaking of being all over the map, that’s probably the best phrase to describe the outcome of this starter game. Let’s see how the final six queens fared:
JUJUBEE (EARTHA KITT) The | Fully aware of this iconic actress’s place in the Snatch Game (previously performed by Chi Chi DeVayne and Valentina), Jujubee made the conscious decision to “stand out by serving this piece of p-sy.” I’m not even sure what he meant by that, but I feel like it’s exactly what he ended up giving us. Her voice was perfect, her gestures were hysterical, and she played surprisingly well with other contestants. (I especially enjoyed when she shouted Blair St. Clair’s uncomfortable Ellen DeGeneres tirades: “In the past, we called this white noise.”)
SHEA (TASTE TASTE) The | What more is there to say? She to turned Flavor Flav in this game. A mind-blowing 180 from her previous Snatch Game character (acknowledging Naomi Campbell was a “safe” choice), Shea’s portrayal of this icon turned into reality was so good it was almost terrifying. The voice, the physicality, the “14 inch … clock” joke. It was just perfection.
ALEXIS (WALTER MARKET) The | Like guest judge Jeffrey Boweyer-Chapman, I don’t have a frame of reference for who Walter Mercado is, but I feel like I know him intimately after seeing the fully-performed representation of Alexis. I loved the way he handled Cracker accidentally stealing one of his questions (“It was my question, you dumb bitch!”), One of several cutting interactions with fellow contestants. Sure, she was relying too much on the old “I didn’t see it coming” routine, but she was giving me Jaida Essence Hall / “Look there!” energy, so I enjoyed it.
INDIA (JEFFREE STAR) The | “Many people love him, many people hate him, kind of like my life story,” said India, justifying why she chose to portray the controversial beauty magnate. I can’t say she did a bad job portraying Star as it nailed her creepy looks, but I can confidently say she couldn’t find the jokes. Not even a single one.
BLAIR (ELLEN DEGENERES) The | As I said before, Blair’s portrayal of the legendary daytime host was as awkward as it was completely humorless. She nailed the hair and the clothes, but that’s all. And what about that strong southern accent? Blair has really impressed me on the acting challenges this season, so maybe my expectations were a little higher than they should have been, but this was objectively bad.
CRACKER (LADY GAGA) The | Cracker was quick on this challenge, as always, but this may have been the most boring impression of Gaga I’ve ever seen. Why would you choose to portray an eccentric musician with an endless catalog of iconic looks … only to settle into such a basic red carpet dress?
The questionable decisions brought to this week’s “Prom Queen Fantasy” catwalk, which found Cracker battling some pimples on prom night, Alexis gave us the quintessential fifteen year party, India paying tribute to Morticia Addams, Blair serving “gender illusion” in a pink tuxedo dress, Juju living out her 80’s wavy hair fantasy and Shea giving her Season 9 elimination team a Carrie-thematic makeup. That last look was truly surprising, so it wasn’t a surprise to hear Shea announced as this week’s winner, especially when you consider her performance in the Snatch Game.
Then things got interesting. Shortly after Ru announced that someone other than his name Shea was ready to be eliminated (“If you’re not the best All Star, you’re at the bottom”), India decided to take something out of his chest. Two weeks ago, Alexis and Mayhem allegedly attempted to get India to join them in voting for Shea. (Mariah Paris Balenciaga was finally the one who went home). None of the queens Dear To believe India’s story, but Jujubee made a good point: If India was lying, that would mean she was a good actress … and would have done better in Snatch Game.
