Doug Pederson says Greg Ward is in the mix to be a starter at WR

The Eagles pulled back the wide receiver position through the NFL Draft, but on Wednesday, head coach Doug Pederson confirmed that an aspiring veteran still has an advantage in the competition.

During the Eagles’ late playoff run in 2019, Ward was an integral part of the team’s success and he finally found a place on an NFL roster. Ward was the Eagles ‘most consistent and reliable receiver during the Birds’ fourth game after a division title, grabbing 28 catches for 254 yards and one touchdown in that six-week stretch.

When Ward and the Eagles entered the 2020 season, the roster dynamics changed, and what initially looked like a guaranteed starting role this season dropped back to another press battle for a roster spot.

The Eagles got the fast Marquise Goodwin on pregnant night and then selected Jalen Reagor, John Hightower, and Quez Watkins to add more speed and athleticism to the roster.

A virtual offseason should allow Ward to enter a training camp with an advantage on the position and Doug Pederson’s comments about playing Jalen Reagor on the outside were also a blessing for Ward.
