Doug Pederson Eagles era leader returns to Pennsylvania

Wendell Smallwood continues his NFL career by returning to Pennsylvania.

But no, don’t play for the team that originally selected him: the Philadelphia Eagles. The West Virginia alumnus is signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Eagles parted ways with Smallwood, a 2016 fifth-round pick, during the final cuts to the roster last year. The Washington soccer team claimed the Wilmington, Delaware native on exemptions. Smallwood only logged 81 rushing yards and 64 receiving yards in 15 games played before they chose to let their rookie contract expire. Smallwood has been in the free agent market since the league’s new year began in March.

I can’t imagine Smallwood being a lock on the Steelers’ roster, but, hey, maybe I can find a way to catch up. You’d be surprised to know that he’s actually the leader of the Eagles in the Doug Pederson era! (Hat tip for Dave Zangaro).

Here is the complete top ten:

Wendell Smallwood – 850
Miles Sanders – 818
Carson Wentz – 785
LeGarrette Blount – 766
Darren Sproles – 685
Ryan Mathews – 661
Jay Ajayi – 622
Corey Clement – 580
Jordan Howard – 525
Josh Adams – 511

Apparently, the Eagles have found a special player in Sanders, but this list isn’t exactly, uh, what’s impressing anyone. Like, think about how Ezekiel Elliott has only produced 5,405 rushing yards for the Dallas Cowboys in this same span.

Here is a list of the other 11 players who have logged more than zero rushing yards since Pederson was hired as head coach in 2016:

Boston Scott – 245
Kenjon Barner – 186
Byron Marshall – 64
Nelson Agholor – 60
Terrell Watson – 28
Nate Sudfeld – 20
Nick Foles – 20
Josh Huff – 10
Bryce Treggs – 7
Greg Ward – 5
Alshon Jeffery – 2
