The restaurant delivery platform works with regional groceries across the country, including Smart & Final, Meijer and Fresh Thyme, to offer food offerings. In the coming weeks, D’agostino, Gristedes and Hy-Vee will join the platform. Other chains, including Wegmans, Gelson and others, will allow customers to order prepared food through the app.
Other stores want the sales in, and are working with third-party providers like DoorDash as competitor Instacart to grow their businesses.
DoorDash has promised that customers will receive their messages within the hour, which can give it an advantage over the competition.
“Grocery stores on DoorDash will be available on an on-demand basis,” Mike Goldblatt, the company’s head of supermarkets and convenience partnerships, wrote in a blog post announcing the news Thursday. “That means no plans, no queues, no waiting.” There is a $ 3.99 shipping charge for each shopping version, unless users are part of DoorDash’s DashPass subscription service, which costs $ 9.99 per month and includes shopping.
DoorDash and Instacart both expanded their services during the pandemic.
In April, DoorDash added convenience stores such as 7-Eleven, Walgreens, CVS and Wawa to its app. And earlier this month, DoorDash announced its own virtual convenience store, DashMart, where customers can purchase groceries and other items. It has been working for some time with convenience and grocery stores behind the scenes, and provides its own apps and delivery services.
