Doom Eternal will kill and destroy The Ancient Gods

What is there a little daytime? Announced as part of the opening ceremony of QuakeCon At Home, Doom Eternal’s first campaign expansion is The Ancient Gods: Part 1. Doomguy’s first real post release wants to ask if all that supernatural murder was worth the effort it caused in the the heavens. It’s Doom, so I think the answer is yes – and all worries about follow-up should be easily corrected with a fistful lead and a few pints of chainsaw fuel.

From rusted rigs to the gates of heaven, it’s an honest bet The new locations of Ancient Gods are in for a bright red paint job by the time we are with them.

To spoil spoilage for a moment – The Ancient Gods takes place after Eternal’s campaign, after the Slayer’s bloody charge through (in principle) heaven, hell, and everywhere in between. Yes, the earth was saved, but brutalizing the cosmic pantheon seems to have ruffled a few feathers in the stars.

“Your rampage of destruction saved humanity from extinction, but it came at a cost,” creative director Hugo Martin explained during the teaser’s debut at the opening of QuakeCon yesterday. ‘Now there is an imbalance of power in the heavens, and the true ruler of the Doom universe must rise to make things right. It’s all very cool, very comic book. ”

Doom Eternal seems to have had a bit of a Marmite quality since its launch earlier this year. Our Matt loved his gruesome interdimensional trait in his Doom Eternal review, but I did see a fair bit of gripe on the overarching mythology of the sequel, fiddly resource-juggling and headstrong Marauders. However, if you’re just crazy about finding more field battles to paint in blood, I think The Ancient Gods will be a big old hull.

We’ll get a better look at Slayer’s question of killing and destroying the ancient gods when The Ancient Gods: Part One’s full trailer debuts at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live show on August 27th.
