Angel Olsen, Jay Som, Sudan Archives, Soccer Mommy and others are on “good music to advance the breakdown of American democracy.”
Good music to overcome the collapse of American democracy, A 40-track album featuring previous unleashed recordings from Haley Williams and REM from Phoebe Bridge, Death Cab for QT, and many others from Paramor, will be available for 24 hours on Friday (Sept. 4) at the Band Band amp.
Created by author David Eggers, artist managers Jordan Kurland and Darius Zelkha, Christian Stavros and indie label head Josh Rosenfeld, the platform’s ongoing band amp will sell the album one day as part of Friday’s initiative. One hundred percent of the net sales will go directly to the lucrative fair fight for the right to vote, which was set up by one-time Georgia candidate Stacey Abrams to ensure fair elections and to encourage voter participation in elections across the country.
“He will come down this fall to vote and defend, so the work that Fair Fight does is crucial,” Eggers said in a statement. “Jordan and I have found a painless way to raise some money. Music is like asking musicians to donate an unlimited track, people pay a little money for it, and maybe we can move back to a functioning democracy.”
Other artists who have contributed to the combination of demos, live recordings and covers in the project include Tegan and Sara, Best Cost, Courtney Barnett, Angel Olsen, Gruplov, Decemberists and Weiss Blood along with Shegard Fairy’s cover art – the same artist for the 2008 Barack Obama “HOPE” image.
