Donald Trump willing to work with China on the Covid-19 vaccine for the U.S.

WASHINGTON: United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday expressed his willingness to work with China or other countries to bring a successful coronavirus vaccine to the United States, despite mounting tensions between Beijing and Washington.
“We are ready to work with anyone who gives us a good result,” Trump said, when asked if the administration would collaborate with China on a vaccine for Americans, if China is the first to develop one or not.
The comments came a day after researchers said a coronavirus vaccine developed by China’s CanSino Biologics Inc (6185.HK) and China’s military research unit appeared to be safe and induce immune responses in most subjects in an intermediate-stage study very often.
The CanSino candidate is one of the few vaccines that has shown promise in early human testing. Others preparing for such trials include vaccines from Moderna Inc (MRNA.O) based in the US and BioNTech SE from Germany (22UAy.F), in association with US drug maker Pfizer Inc (PFE.N). .
Data from an early / intermediate combined trial of a vaccine candidate developed by researchers from the University of Oxford and the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca (AZN.L) was also released on Monday.
Trump has always blamed China for mishandling the deadly coronavirus pandemic, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan and blamed across the United States, killing more than 140,000 Americans and raising the stakes for a quick and viable vaccine.
“I think we are going to have very good results. We are already in testing. No one thought that would be possible,” he said. “I think they are going to see something in the next fairly short period of time, maybe a very short period of time, that has to do with therapies and vaccines that are very good,” he said.
