“It was a congratulatory meeting,” White House Deputy Secretary of State Judd Deere told CNN.
The meeting took place on August 3, Deere said. DeJoy met on August 5 with Pelosi and Schumer.
Days later, Aug. 9, in New Jersey asked about the Post Office’s problems, Trump said he “did not speak” against DeJoy and praised him as “a very good businessman.”
“Well, I did not speak to the Postmaster General of the Post Office. I knew this: He is a very good businessman. He is very successful. And I know he loses the Post Office at least a little less money than – They have “No one has ever – nothing loses money like the Post Office. And he wants to make it successful,” Trump told reporters at his Bedminster club, adding, “Let’s see what he does. can do. “
The Washington Post first reported the meeting between the president and DeJoy.
“Unfortunately, this transformative initiative has had unintended consequences affecting our overall service levels,” DeJoy wrote in a memo sent and received by CNN this week.
And it comes as the president has explicitly allowed him to block funding of postal services to stop post-in-votes and spread lies about mail-in-votes.
“They (Democrats) want $ 25 billion – billion – for the Post Office … If we do not make a deal, that means they do not get the money – that means they do not have universal post – by voting,” he said during a Thursday performance on Fox Business.
Trump is actively trying to preemptively discredit the election results with his false claims about widespread fraud.
“If it is not going to be an honest and fair election, people will have to think about it really long and hard,” he told reporters at Thursday’s briefing.
DeJoy is scheduled to appear at a hearing before the House Oversight Committee on September 17.
