During the fifth inning of his team’s 9-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Friday night, Los Angeles Dodgers utility Chris Taylor made a very close decision after colliding with the rear of the Giants first baseman Pablo Sandoval almost sat down.
Taylor was trying to get there first after landing a ball to third, but Giants third baseman Wilmer Flores mailed the pitch to Sandoval at first base. When Sandoval jumped into the air in an attempt to retrieve it, Taylor, running at full speed, crashed face-first into the back of the Sandoval mid-air.
Sandoval’s back did indeed cover the clothes of Taylor, who then fell back onto the ground and probably saw his life flash before his eyes as Sandoval, who is on the 268 pound list and had a recent bout with internet embarrassment after to get to the reset camp with a bigger look. from normal, it almost fell directly on Taylor’s face.
Taylor narrowly avoided a second, and probably a much, much worse collision with Sandoval’s rear end, and got back to his feet after the play. Flores was charged with an error in the play, and could have been charged with something else if Sandoval had really fallen on Taylor’s head and neck.
GAME RECOVERED: Muncy home runs twice, leads Stripling, Dodgers over Giants 9-1.
The Giants fell to 0-2 and have now been outscored 17-2 by the Dodgers on the season. San Francisco will play two more games in Los Angeles over the weekend before returning to Oracle Park for an opening game against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.
