SV Dáte had waited five long years to ask Donald Trump one question: “Mr President, after three and a half years [of Trump’s presidency], at least you’re sorry for all the lies you did to the American people? ”
Confronted with Dáte’s question at the White House briefing on Thursday, Trump answered with his own question. “Everything?” He said.
Date: “All lies, all dishonesty.”
Trump: “Who did that?”
“You did,” said Dáte, who is the Huffington Post’s White House correspondent. “Tens of thousands,” he began, before Trump shrugged him off and called another journalist, who asked a question about payroll taxes.
In July, the Washington Post reported that Trump had made more than 20,000 “false or misleading claims” during his presidency.
Speaking to the Guardian, Dáte said he asked the question because it was the first time he had the chance.
‘I do not know why he called me, because I tried to ask him before [in March] and he cut off my mid-question. Maybe he didn’t recognize me this time, “he said. “You know, he has this group of people he normally asks questions.”
It was Dáte’s turn at the White House in the press pool, and so he had a leading seat. “I always thought that if he ever called me, this would be the only thing that is central to his presidency,” he said.
Trump’s lie was the “single piece of his presidency that will be remembered in 10 years”.
That was not surprised by Trump’s answer to the question – ignore that it would always be the most likely response, he thought.
Asked if he thought he would be allowed the next time, Dáte said, “Yes, absolutely.”
With the burning question, what would he ask if he had another chance?
Given that Trump did not respond, it would be: ” Mr President, you did not respond last time. Could you address why you told … ‘what the number will be then,’ ‘Dáte said.
