U.S. Now battling a third outbreak of the epidemic that has now claimed the lives of one million Americans, officials with the CDC are recommending travel against Thanksgiving, citing the explosive growth in COVID-19 cases across the country.
“[The] The CDC is recommending travel in the Thanksgiving period, “said Henry Wallock, director of the CDC’s Department of Prep Preparedness and Emerging Infections, at a pre-holiday briefing call with reporters on Thursday.” This is a strong recommendation. “
“It’s a difficult conversation and sometimes sad to let people know you’re going home,” he added, adding that people would risk their families by traveling to meet.
The tightened Federal Public Health Agency also released updated guidelines for those who gather for the holidays despite the recommendation to reduce the risk of coronavirus infection in gatherings and safe travel.
“Most importantly, wear a mask,” said Volk, who needs to be kept 6 feet away from other passengers and emphasizes frequent hand washing. College Ledge students should consider returning home 14 days prior to any gathering that will host elderly or sick guests at high risk of disease and isolate themselves to limit the risks of coronavirus infection.
The CDC guidelines also recommend limiting exposure, increasing ventilation with outdoor activities, and wearing homemade masks while traveling for holidays. Recommendations include bringing your own food, keeping a mask inside the house and avoiding the kitchen for those who go out to meet people outside their own home.
“I haven’t seen my parents since January. It was difficult,” VKLK said. “I stay home.”
COVID-19 is now killing more than 1,100 people every day across the country. The number of cases is increasing rapidly amid a nationwide outbreak of the disease in most states.
