DNC lineup has VP candidates plus Obamas, Clinton and AOC

Other speakers announced on Tuesday include Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Cory Booker (DN.J.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Doug Jones (D-Ala.) And Chris Coons (D-Del.).). Former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg I will speak, as will Rep. Jim Clyburn (DS.C.), former rep. Gabby Giffords (D-Ariz.) And Govs. Tony Evers (D-Wis.), Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) And Andrew Cuomo (DN.Y.).

Tuesday’s announcement further completes a lineup with multiple presidents from the past and an appearance of a go-ahead by a former Republican governor. Along with Warren, Harris, Duckworth, Grisham and Whitmer, POLITICO reported Friday that Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Jill Biden, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN .Y.) And former Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio) are also in the lineup. Those speakers were confirmed by the DNC on Tuesday.

Michelle Obama, Sanders, Cuomo, Kasich and Whitmer are among the top names set to speak at the convention’s opening night next Monday. Tuesday’s lineup will feature Jill Biden, Bill Clinton, Ocasio-Cortez and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.). Wednesday will likely be headed by Biden’s suffrage, along with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Biden himself will provide the main address on the last night of the convention, when Harris, Booker, Bottoms, Baldwin and Duckworth are also scheduled to speak.

Because only two hours of programming will air each night from August 17-20, a speaking role at the convention is even more desirable than usual. Typically, there are hours of programming during the day where politicians at lower levels can chat.

With Sanders, Warren and Ocasio-Cortez getting slots, Biden’s nominating covenant lineup underscores that the attempt of the former vice-president to present a united front with the left flank of the Democratic Party.

The recording of Kasich, who told CNN on Monday that he supports Biden because “we need a new direction”, represents an attempt to reach out to right-wing independents and Republicans who are against President Donald Trump.

Additional speakers announced Tuesday include reps Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) And Gwen Moore (D-Wis.), As well as former Acting Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and former Secretary of State John Kerry. Yesterday, Democrats said a group of all-day Americans, including a former Trump supporter and paramedic, will also speak.

The convention was originally scheduled to take place in Milwaukee last month, but was postponed and later made virtual due to coronavirus-related concerns. Last week, event organizers said Biden would accept his nomination in Delaware instead of Milwaukee as originally planned.
