DK Dominates & Other Observations From The Sixth Practice Of Seahawks Training Camp

3. Competition as continuity?

The Seahawks will have at least three new starters on their offensive line, and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has noted that returning left guard Mike Iupati has to contend with left guard competition from the likes of Jordan Simmons and Phil Haynes. So with the regular season just a month away, Duane Brown at left tackle is almost the only thing when it comes to the Seattle line, although there are some clear early front-runners for starting jobs, including Iupati. Center seems to be a battle between Ethan Pocic and addition with free agent BJ Finney, while rookie Damien Lewis and free agent signing Brandon Shell get first-team work at right guard and right approach, though, again there is competition there . But for as many as the Seahawks like to want their depth on the line and the competition to play out, Carroll also knows that offensive line in particular is a group that can benefit from continuity.

“We have depth of good quality, and I can not tell you what the story will be,” Carroll said. “The center place with Pocic, and you see that you see Kyle Fuller and BJ too. It’s going to be a wide open competition. We’ll leave these guys. We’ll try this sooner rather than later for the sake of continuity. starter, and what you’ll see if we go through here and it’s going to be open, and it could not make football any better, that’s as good as it gets. “
