- A disturbance will bring heavy rains to parts of the Gulf coast this weekend.
- This system could help form low pressure, which could develop into a tropical depression or storm.
- In any case, it is possible that it will rain locally during the holiday weekend along the gulf and southeast coasts.
A disturbance near the Gulf coast will bring stormy weather over the weekend of July 4, and there is a chance it could develop into a tropical depression or storm early next week.
A higher-level weather system will be established near the eastern Gulf coast later this week at the weekend and will produce elevation in the atmosphere, which in combination with tropical humidity, can cause numerous showers and thunderstorms.
The altered climate area could lead to the development of a low-pressure surface system that could develop into a tropical depression or storm in the Northeast Gulf or on the Southeast coast next week. If that happens, this system is likely to be washed into the Atlantic, but it could still graze the southeast coast.
It is also possible that the decline will remain inland over the southeast, which would prevent significant tropical development from occurring.
For now, this is nothing to worry about too much. The next tropical storm to form in the Atlantic basin would be Edouard.
Regardless of what happens, heavy local rains of this configuration will affect the Gulf and Southeast coasts during the holiday weekend. At least an inch of rain could fall in some areas from southern Mississippi to southern Alabama, northern Florida, and southern Georgia. Heavier totals are possible where rain bands or groups of thunderstorms stagnate for a few hours, which could lead to local flash floods.
