Disney Plus has delayed all its Marvel 2020 shows due to COVID

Well the delays are coming. While many studies realized that the COVID pandemic may be declining right now and that fall shows may be safe to resume filming, that has not spread, and we are starting to see some high-profile delays.

While Disney Plus will still launch a previously filmed Season 2 of The Mandalorian this fall, they’ve delayed the two main Marvel shows that were supposed to arrive in 2020, Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision.

Falcon and the Winter Soldier were supposed to arrive this August, but with a few weeks to go yet, Disney has announced that it has been delayed to … some unspecified date. That may not for sure It means we won’t see it until 2021, as it could perhaps squeeze in late November or December, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see that it pulled out of the year entirely.

Meanwhile, THR reports that WandaVision, the high-concept Vision / Scarlet Witch series that many were shocked to see debuted in 2020, has now been delayed until the spring of 2021. Although I’ve seen at least one conflicting report that says it’s still could come December. Then we’ll see.

This of course occurs as all other Disney MCU movies have also been delayed with theaters closed. It’s kind of hard to keep up with all the ongoing date changes, but the next five movies should be:

  • Black Widow (November 6, 2020)
  • The Eternals (February 12, 2021)
  • Shang-Chi (May 7, 2021)
  • Spider-Man 3 (November 5, 2021)
  • Thor: love and thunder (February 28, 2022)
  • Dr. Strange 2 (March 25, 2022)

But the longer that elapses (that is, the US sets COVID records to the left and to the right), the less likely the Black Widow, already overdue, will come out in November. And if that is delayed, that probably pushes everything plus back.

However, the news from the Disney Plus show isn’t particularly good, as adult fans have been looking for a reason to use the service in addition to the Mandalorian for months, but now they could be waiting a whole year for … Season 2 of Mandalorian (D + put Hamilton online recently, though there are somewhat different crowds there.) And yet, it is no surprise that these shows are delayed given everything else. We’re about to see that delays on television happen en masse, even more than before, because we’ve gotten to the point where everyone realizes that a few weeks of filming delays is actually actually many months, and almost All of 2020 shot up from an entertainment perspective. That includes the box office, to be sure, but also streaming services. However, we’ll see if Netflix really runs out of series, with its unique production schedule that has a lot more in the can than its rivals.

So not Marvel for a while. Patience, as always.
