We should all assume that this would happen someday, but if there were any more indications as to how the public perception of what is worth of the Star Wars name has changed, it’s this: Disney + brings the Star Wars Holiday Special, the much-maligned TV event in 1978 that featured Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher (plus Bea Arthur and Jefferson Starship!) with Chewbacca for a trip to celebrate the life of his home planet. The special has been officially buried and ignored by Lucasfilm for decades, though that hasn’t stopped several Star Wars stories of making poignant references to it every now and then, and now it seems the Star Wars people are finally ready to formally admit the most infamous misstep of the series – well … no, no, The Holiday Special is worse than that one movie, right?

However, instead of releasing an HD from the original Holiday Special, which would be cool, Disney is actually working with Lego to create a kind of modern remake that is a Lego version of the new Star Wars cast – Rey, Rose, Finn and Poe – on their way to Kashyyyk for Chewie’s Life Day celebrations. Disney has not said when the original cast will return to speak to its Lego counterparts, however Variation since “a little bit” Star Wars actors will appear (what we will assume means at least Anthony Daniels). A press release adds that this will take place immediately The Rise Of Skywalker, with Rey to a Jedi temple to learn more about the Force and at some point travel adventure that teaches her about ‘the true meaning of holiday spirit’, which somehow makes the idea that Bea Arthur as Mos appears Eisley bartender indeed seems more appealing than before. Is it possible that they could bring themselves back to bad with old images like they did with Carrie Fisher? Everyone is already a Lego, it can not be too hard.

The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special will be released on Disney + on November 17 this year, the 42nd anniversary of when it was originally broadcast on CBS.
