PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The director of the Allegheny County Department of Health says she is reconsidering the more restrictive limit on outdoor collection.
Currently, open-air meetings in Allegheny are capped at 50 people, where if the state imposes a limit of 250.
Dr. Debra Bogen says efforts to curb coronavirus to slow the spread in the province are working. She says from August 14-20, the province’s percentage positivity dropped to 3.9%.
“With this setback, I have received many, many emails and calls to increase outdoor collection limits. I hear you loud and clear. My job as director of public health is to make the best decisions I can with the data I have, ”says Dr. The book.
The province put the limit of 50 people in place after an increase in cases three weeks into the “green” phase.
Although it appears that the spread of coronavirus in the province is slowing down, says Dr. Bows that she still keeps in mind that college campuses are replenishing and Allegheny County is an urban area where the virus can spread more easily. She also says she wants to get students back to school “as quickly and safely as possible”. “
With all this in mind, she says she is reconsidering the boundaries on outside associations, but will not lower the province’s restrictions to 250.
“I want to gradually open things up and make restrictions easier so we can see how the virus responds,” she says.
Meanwhile, she says state-imposed restrictions on restaurants and indoor gatherings remain because the province cannot change state orders.
“Any changes to restrict the open-air meetings are not a signal that the threat of COVID-19 is any less,” she says. The virus is still spread by asymptomatic people and it is still a threat to vulnerable people like the elderly.
