The Houston Astros and Oakland A’s had a bench-clearing brawl on Sunday after Oakland outfielder Ramon Laureano was hit twice, then clashed with Astros striker Alex Cintron, leading to the melee that MLB commissioner Rob Manfred could not quite rejoice to make.

But what was said in that exchange that escalated everything?

Ex-Astros beat reporter Jose de Jesus Ortiz reports that he spoke to a source who said that ‘Laureano blamed Alex Cintron because Cintron called Laureano’s mother in a bad way. In Latino culture, those words are fighting. ‘

He also said that Laureano “is one of the nicest men alive,” perhaps implying that it might be somewhat insulting for him to react in this way.
