Diamondbacks place Madison Bumgarner on injured list, select Jeremy Beasley

4:01 pm: The team has selected the righty contract Jeremy Beasley and activated him to fill the open active roster site. Beasley, a former 30th-round pick, gets his first taste of the majors after returning last year to a 4.49 ERA in 122 1/3 innings in the top minors.

3:47 pm: The Diamondbacks have placed lefty Madison Bumgarner on the injured list, GM Mike Hazen told reporters including Nick Piecoro of the Republic of Arizona (via Twitter). He said it had to do with a mid-back penalty.

The hope at this point is that Bumgarner will not be sidelined for an extended stretch. But even a few missed outings could put a pretty significant belly in his overall contribution in a short 2020 season.

More broadly, it would probably be good news if a fairly small backlog helps explain Bumgarner’s early battle. The 31-year-old’s past two starts have been dudden; he allowed a six-run run at home while recording just four strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
