DeWine tests negative for coronavirus a second time

The Midwestern leader and his wife were re-tested “out of an abundance of caution,” at Ohio State University, according to a Politico report.

“Today Fran and I were tested again #COVID. @OSUWexMed managed the PCR tests, and the results for both tests were negative, ”tweeted DeWine, referring to himself and his wife. “Thank you to everyone who sent good wishes for our family and staff! we are #InThisTogetherOhio! ”

“I fully expected to see the president this morning,” DeWine said at a news conference Friday. “But when we drove to the airport to meet him, I was called and told about my positive result.”

Hours later on Thursday, however, the mayor took another type of test that came out negative on two different diagnostic platforms.

The DeWine office said the second test was a PCR test, which is “known to be extremely sensitive, as specifically, to the virus,” while the one that was driving Thursday morning a rapid anti-test for healthcare facilities on a mobile test site facilitated by the Republican National Committee.

The PCR test is the most common test used in the country, and the conflicting results underscore the importance of accuracy for both patients and medical professionals, as the province remains devastated by the virus.
