Devonta Freeman’s already uncertain NFL future hit another snag on Sunday night.
NFL Network’s Mike Silver reported that Freeman’s agent Kristin Campbell notified the free agent that their relationship was ending. Campbell notably negotiated the five-year, $ 41.25 million extension Freeman signed with the Falcons in 2017 that made him the highest-paid RB in the game.
Freeman, 28, remains a notable name in the free-agent market for nearly four months after being launched by Atlanta. A deal with the Seahawks in late May seemed imminent, but the talks fell through at the last minute, prompting Seattle’s decision to sign Carlos Hyde. Silver noted at the time that Freeman believed it was worth more than the one-year offer on the table. He was willing to earn up to $ 4 million on that deal.
Silver also reported shortly after the end of those talks that the six-year veteran insisted that he is willing to stay out next season if his contract number is not met. The Buccaneers briefly expressed interest in June, prompting Freeman to tell the team via Twitter that they could communicate directly with him. Of course, nothing materialized from that exchange.
With some teams still looking to add depth before training camp, which will kick off in a couple of weeks, it will be interesting to see how Freeman is doing now that he has no representation.
