While appearing as a guest on TNT’s Inside the NBA, Draymond Green suggested that Devin Booker should leave the Phoenix Suns, on the grounds that the 23-year-old All-Star should be in a winning situation.
In response to the Golden State Warriors’ lead forward, Booker noted the importance of staying true to the fans who have been with her through all these down years:
“I feel that this is important for this organization, for the fans who have been sticking through us all this time and still do,” Booker said when asked about Green’s comments, via ESPN’s Nick Friedell. ‘Since I’m in Phoenix, we’ve not had the winning success we’ve had, but the support has been there. And this is what we owe to the fans, we owe it to the organization. It’s been a long time for us and I think this bubble opportunity was great for us, and we take advantage of it. ”
Booker has long been criticized for failing to transform the Suns into a winning squad since they drafted him in 2015. However, like Green, they also sympathize with how Phoenix does not have a state to build a striving roster around the franchise star.
Led by Booker’s brilliance, the Suns have managed to turn things around since returning from the season. Phoenix remains the only undefeated team in the bubble after rattling a 119-112 victory over the Miami Heat on Saturday.
However, the Suns are still looking to the outside in the playoffs. They are currently the 10th seed in the Western Conference standings. Two games separate them from the eight-seeded Memphis Grizzlies, while ninth-place Portland Trail Blazers are only half a game above them.
We’ll have to see if Phoenix will eventually punch a ticket to the playoffs. Nevertheless, even if the Suns do not pull this off, their experience playing in these significant games in the bubble should bode well for their development in the 2020-21 season.
