Detroit Tigers Introduces Spencer Torkelson at Summer Camp

The Detroit Tigers July 4 fireworks arrived early Saturday afternoon.

Just before 2 p.m. M., No. 1 overall pick Spencer Torkelson took the field for his first formal summer camp training.

The former Arizona state slugger had his first batting practice session at Comerica Park.

He left the visitor’s booth under number 73. He was followed by a Tigers cameraman while doing calisthenics before swinging.

Torkelson, who played first base in the state of Arizona, will begin playing third base for the Tigers, the team announced when he was recruited on June 10.

Shawn Windsor: I saw the future of the Tigers at Comerica Park. And it looks good.

Earlier in the week, he signed a contract that included a $ 8.4 million bonus, $ 1,000 over the slot value for the largest group of bonuses awarded to the No. 1 pick in the bond group era.

Torkelson, 20, is considered an impact hitter, middle of order and has immediately become one of the organization’s most important players, wherever he ends up on the defensive.
