Detroit Lions expect ‘reduced seating capacity’ as NFL demands masks for fans

On Wednesday afternoon, the Detroit Lions e-mailed season ticket holders, updating fans about their plans for the 2020 season. While there is obviously nothing in writing yet, the team did let fans know that They expect a limited number of fans for the upcoming season.

“The most notable change will be the number of fans who can attend the games at Ford Field,” the email said. “Although capacity restrictions have not yet been determined by government officials, we anticipate reduced seating capacity, with seats socially distanced.”

In June, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order allowing sports to resume in the state, but the order specifically said that a live hearing was not yet allowed. For now, that remains the policy for the state of Michigan.

Other NFL teams, such as the New York Jets and Giants, have already announced that they will have no live fans for the foreseeable future.

In addition to limited capacity, Lions fans must comply with the NFL mandate to wear a mask while present. NFL Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy tweeted this on Wednesday:

So if you plan to go to a game this year make sure you have a mask and get ready to be socially distant from other fans … if there is any fans this year.
