Detention of a suspect accused of sending a resin-defamed letter to the White House

WASHINGTON – A suspect who allegedly sent a letter to the White House containing a deadly poison resin was detained during an attempt to enter the United States from Canada, a federal law enforcement official said Sunday.

Additional information about the person was not immediately available. The detainee was detained by treaty customs and border protection agents, a federal law enforcement official said.

The FBI said Saturday it was investigating a suspicious letter addressed to President Donald Trump that was intercepted.

It is not clear when the letter was sent or where it was intercepted. Law enforcement officials said the toxin, which is highly toxic and can cause nausea, vomiting, organ failure and death, was found in a facility f-site that screens mail addressed to the White House.

Rixin was confirmed in field and laboratory tests.

Other letters were suspiciously sent to federal prisons that were found in various facilities, an official told NBC News Saturday. It was not immediately clear to which prisons the letters were sent or who the recipients were.

The official said only one letter would appear to be addressed to a political figure.
