Alan Dzderevic, whose company handles Olympic ticket sales for Corporate, the United States, Australia, Australia and six other countries, said that although Tokyo organizers offered refunds at the start of the epidemic, the majority of ticket buyers kept at least some of them.
Casport does not release exact figures, but Dziderevic said: “After the return and new purchases, the number of spectators holding Tokyo 2020 tickets from the countries where we sell tickets is a little lower than before. However, as long as the conditions allow, we expect the USA to perform strongly, with the number of Americans attending Tokyo 2020 likely to exceed the number of attendees in Rio 2016 and London 2012. ”
Michael Lynch, who previously led Visa’s global sponsorship programs and was close with many Olympic sponsors, said companies still hope they will be able to bring hundreds of customers and clients to the Games.
“The smart ones all have comprehensive contingency plans,” Lynch said. “Bach is speaking the right words so there is a sense of optimism in the sponsoring community.”
Optimism, however, can go far, especially in the United States, which typically takes in more than 500 athletes in sports.
Sports leaders in the United States and elsewhere are pushing for a number of alternative plans based on different scenarios. Some options include immediate athletes who qualify for the Olympics in a controlled environment, although it will be difficult for track and field athletes who typically compete in the weeks leading up to the Olympics in Europe.
Other plans may require cutting out who participates in the Olympic trials. About 2,000 swimmers usually take part in it, although there are no more than 75 to 100, for the most part, the team has a real chance to make it.
