Catcher Antonio Brown continues to be linked to many teams, but none of them employ him. At a time when the team that might be most interested in Brown (the Seahawks) has yet to budge, another possibility may be emerging.
Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson responded to a Thursday tweet from former NFL catcher Chad Johnson suggesting Brown to Houston posting a Drake meme with his window lowered in his limo, which according to the cool guys at class means Watson is interested.
If coach / GM Bill O’Brien is interested it becomes a different question. Although Texans traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Cardinals, Houston traded Brandin Cooks, and they also have Will Fuller and Kenny Stills.
Still, Brown is considered one of the game’s best receivers, even if he’s not in the game. The biggest impediment to Brown being in the game are three different off-field issues that the league is still investigating for. As explained during Thursday’s #PFTPM (embedded clip), the league has taken too long to resolve the situation stemming from the lawsuit filed last September against Brown. Whatever the final decision on that and other matters (including his recent non-dispute statement on felony charges stemming from an altercation with the driver of a moving truck), Brown should get credit for 14 sets of de facto unpaid suspension in 2019, when the possibility of Brown being included on the list of exempt Commissioners prevented interested teams from hiring Brown.
However, none of that matters, because the NFL controls the timeline and the result. Until the league decides on its status, teams are likely to continue to wait, unless and until a team decides to force the league’s hand, as the Saints seemed interested in doing at the end of last season.
