DeSean Jackson accepts Holocaust survivor invitation to visit Auschwitz

DeSean Jackson accepted 94-year-old Holocaust survivor Edward Mosberg’s invitation to visit the Auschwitz site.

“I grew up in Los Angeles, and I never spent a lot of time with someone from the Jewish community and didn’t know much about their history,” the receiver said during a Zoom call with Mosberg, according to the Jerusalem Post. “It has been such a powerful experience for me to learn and educate myself.”

After the controversy erupted after Jackson posted a quote falsely attributed to Adolf Hitler on social media, Jackson agreed to meet Mosberg on Friday via Zoom. Mosberg answered the call and extended the invitation while wearing his Mauthausen concentration camp uniform.

Jackson was fined by the Eagles for conduct detrimental to the team for his anti-Semitic posts on social media. According to ESPN, Jackson also intends to donate a significant amount to the efforts of the Jewish community.

“I want to take the right steps so that people know that I never intentionally had hatred in my heart, that I never wanted to discourage the Jewish community, I want to educate myself more and help bridge the gaps between all the different cultures.” Jackson said.

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, who identifies as a Jew, also invited Jackson to attend the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC, and posted that they spoke on Friday.

From The Depths, an organization supporting Holocaust survivors, she is currently connecting with Jackson to organize the details of the trip. Mosberg currently serves as the organization’s honorary president.

“We are working with DeSean and his team to set dates for this journey to continue and we are happy that Desean agrees,” Jonny Daniels, founder of From the Depths, said in a statement.
