Derrius Guice denies ‘accusation’ of domestic violence; criticizes NFL team for release

Former Washington Football Team running back Derrius Guice “adamantly” denies “domestic violence-related charges leading to arrest and release of NFL team.

The lawyer for the return of Derrius Guice, who was arrested on domestic violence-related charges and released by the Washington Football Team, said Guice “adamantly denies” the accusers and the NFL team raged over the verdict with the 23 -year-old player.

Guice was arrested Friday.

Defense attorney Peter Greenspun was critical in a statement about the process that led to Guice’s arrest.

“On August 7, 2020, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office received arrest warrants for Derrius Guice,” Greenspun said. “Unfortunately, the investigators did not seek Derrius’ statement or input before the warrants were issued.”

The charges include one count of strangulation, three counts of assault and battery and one count of destruction of property.

The latest stems from incidents that occurred earlier this year – on Feb. 14, March 13 and April 17 – in Loudoun County, where Guice lives and is the team’s headquarters and practice facility.

The allegations against Guice were first reported in Montgomery County, where the victim lives, and Loudoun’s Sheriff’s Office first learned of them on July 22.

“The failure of allegations of incidents, which all happened months ago, is unclear,” Greenspun said.

Guice turned himself in and was released on a $ 10,000 unsecured bond.

“Based solely on the judgment of these unsubstantiated prosecutors, the Washington Football Team has released Derrius, even without investigation into what did or did not happen.”

Guice’s lawyer said his client was expected to be a key player for the team this season, “yet he has been released without any question as to what happened.”

Greenspun, which has represented high-profile representatives in the region, including Beltway sniper John Allen Muhammad, said Guice will defend the prosecutors in court.

“A full scrutiny of the allegations will take place, in contrast to actions of local law and the Washington Football Team that are least accepted, in direct conflict with any sense of fairness and due process,” Greenspun said.
