Delta Aquariid, Alpha Capricornid Meteor Showers coming our way

(Newser)
– When the door of a show in the sky closes, another one opens, and with the comet Neowise beginning to fade, two sets of meteor showers are ready to fill that space. If the weather holds up, space enthusiasts should be able to catch a glimpse of the Delta Aquariid and Alpha Capricornid meteors this week, with the former peaking Monday through Wednesday, and the second slated for its biggest show on Thursday, USA Today reports. AccuWeather notes that your best chance for a “heavenly double show” would be Tuesday night, with prime time after 1 am

The difference between the two meteor showers: It can detect up to 25 Delta Aquariid meteors per hour, although they are generally weak, according to the American Meteor Society. Alpha Capricornid rains, on the other hand, generally produce only five or more meteors per hour, but “what is remarkable about this rain is the number of bright fireballs produced,” the AMS notes. The group says the Delta Aquariids will be active until August 23, while the Capricornid meteorites will continue to do their thing until August 15. To get a better view of any of the shows, experts recommend finding a sky with little sky pollution, lying on your back or on a reclining lounger and looking towards the southern horizon. “In less than 30 minutes in the dark, your eyes will adapt and you will begin to see meteors,” says NASA, according to CBS News.
