Dell Announces Premium Latitude 7410 Chromebook Enterprise: Available Now

It’s not often that we cover the announcement of a Chromebook in addition to its availability, but that’s exactly what’s happening today. Dell announces its latest Chromebook for Enterprise in the powerful, premium 7410. This is a sequel to the latest gen Latitude 5300 and 5400 that were launched around the same time last year and this latest version is an improvement on the previous models basically every single way.

As always, Dell offers a dizzying array of options and configurations for this Chromebook, and like last year, the prices are steep and not at all aimed at the general public. This new Chromebook is aimed directly at the business sector and is intended for large-scale deployment for professionals in the field. A notable change this year is the inclusion of only one model that has a clamshell and convertible option. Dell has cleaned up the offering and has gone with a single 14-inch Chromebook that companies can customize in a handful of ways, allowing the options to be cut a little more clearly. Instead of distinguishing hardware between the clamshell and convertible, this is basically the same Chromebook with different hinges.

I’m sure we’re both looking at that spec sheet with keen eye fascination, because it appears that Dell left nothing on the table here. You want a convertible, you have it. You want a 4K display? Wis. While we’ve seen most of these specs here and there on already released Chromebooks, we do not see them all available on one device and There are a few things Dell has to offer here that are important to note.

First, I’m really happy that Dell is coming out on 300 nits with this device. I think Chromebooks should be at least 400 nits in this premium tier, but I’ve also seen other Enterprise devices appear with 250 nits screens, so I’m glad we’re looking a bit ahead here. I’m in the camp that feels 4K in a 14-inch device is overkill, but it’s cool that Dell chose the optional upgrade because that config offers a far brighter 400 nit panel in addition to the added pixel density.

Along with these display options, Dell also offers certain configurations with a digital privacy screen and is the first to hit the market with this feature in a Chromebook. HP has an upcoming device in the Elite c1030 Chromebook Enterprise that will do the same, but Dell is currently shipping one. The feature gives you digital, built-in functionality to hide your screen content from viewers to the left and right when you’re in denser fields. While not a huge problem in the midst of a pandemic, there will soon be a day when crowded planes become a reality for many professionals and the ability to turn a setting and hide your screen from nosy neighbors will be very useful.

Dell also touts up to 21 hours of battery life and that is a very hefty claim. The battery sizes are enormous and most configurations of this Chromebook will print 1080p screens, making it completely realistic. In addition to that crazy battery life, Dell also ships the 7410 with two different fast charge options in its ExpressCharge ™ Boost and ExpressCharge ™ capabilities. This is achieved in part by the battery types and the massive 65W or 90W chargers included in the box. Make no mistake: this thing will be a battery champion.

In addition, the array of ports and MIL-STD 810G tests provide long road life and a wide range of connectivity options for almost any scenario. With multiple USB-A and Type-C ports, full-sized HDMI port, and a microSD card slot, there are not too many connected situations that the Latitude 7410 may not be ready for. And in the realm of connectivity, there will also be optional LTE on some models, allowing this device to stay on track and be flexible in almost any work-related environment.
