It is with a heavy heart that the truth must be explained – the glory days of hip-hop video games are over. Away it’s time for 50 Cent: Bulletproof. No longer will we see the likes of Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style. And most importantly, the crown achievement in rap-related gaming, the Def Jam series, is just a memory burned in the minds of nostalgic gamers. Who has no love feelings for Def Jam: Vendetta, as the magnum opus of the genre, Def Jam: Fighting for New York? Even though Icon, abused by many as a departure from what made his predecessors so great, has a cult that follows.

Even though it’s been more than ten years since we last saw it Def Jam game, the label has not exactly stopped with stings from the fires of hype. In 2018, she began posting again for a return to the series, although that road appeared to lead immediately to nothing. Yet the hopeful optimists will never let the fire die – and perhaps their growth will eventually be rewarded. A few days ago, Def Jam took to Twitter again to post a return to the favorite series, writing “The streets that say we need a new Def Jam game.”

If that wasn’t enough, they also pleaded with fans to run the countdown to a million, where the reward would be an announcement – an announcement yet to come, despite the goal being achieved. Of course, it may be naive to hope for a next generation Def Jam fighting game, though the time has actually never been better. Think of the sheer volume of foreign hip-hop characters, and not to mention stealing OGs who would want to enjoy digitally defeating the new generation of rap stars.

Between the potential roster, the customization options, and the implementation of online play, it feels like a new Def Jam game would be a sure success – provided it could keep the spirit of Fight for NY. Whatever you say – you might be interested in a new one Def Jam title? And who would you like to see make an appearance?
