Deboe Samuel’s illness raises issue that worries 49-year-old Kyle Shanahan

Wide receiver Debo Samuel has been listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the 49 Miami Dolphins.

On Saturday, the club elevated wide receiver Kevin White from the practice squad to be available to play in the Week 5 game.

Here’s what else we know: Wide receiver Richie James won’t play; Samuel can play, but 49 people will say it or not.

James remains on the injured reserve and is not available to return to action against the Dolphins. He will miss his fourth consecutive game due to a hamstring injury.

Samuel is eligible to play after being cleared by the weekend test for the novel coronavirus. He experienced flu-like symptoms this week but has not been placed on the NFL’s Reserve / COVID-19 list. That means he tested negative.

Ordinary cold warrants also draw unusual attention.

Coach Kyle Shanah said on Friday that dealing with CO-covid diseases is worrisome. For any illness this season, the player has to self-isolate two days away from the team headquarters and pass multiple swab tests before getting clearance to join his teammates.

“Debo was sick, so I think he was a little sad,” Shanah said. “I think he has a fever at night. This is especially true with the onset of the flu season.

“But if you have symptoms, you’re automatically out of the building, I think, for at least two days, because you need to pass two tests to confirm that it’s not covid, and anyone around you. He also needs to come out. Those two days. ”

Samuel attended position and team meetings via video conference on Friday, Shanah said.

At this point, the 49ers wanted to keep the Dolphins guessing whether Samuel would be available to play. This is to be expected because the disease, at this stage, does not keep it out.

While the COVID-19 is at the forefront of everyone’s mind, Shanah thought back to the play-ss last season and how a less team-critical illness could derail a game – or a season.

“I remember about 12 of us were sick last year against Minnesota in that game.” “We’ll deal with that stuff as it goes, so hopefully we’ll get a little luck with it.”

There are 52 players on the 49-man active roster, as they are apparently only keeping one place to activate Cornwack Richard Sherman from the injured reserve next week.

The team will only need to introduce player players to reach a maximum of 48 players, as long as they include eight offensive linemen.

Samuel, White, Brandon Ayuk, Kendrick Bourne, Trent Taylor and Dante Pattis are available for Sunday’s game. P te receiver Mohammed Sanu was introduced by the club earlier in the week.
