One Unsolved mysteries The viewer may have discovered an important clue in the Rey Rivera case. Rivera, who is the subject of Episode 1 of Netflix Unsolved mysteries Restart, “Mystery on The Rooftop”, was found dead in a hotel room, but left a note before it disappeared. Now a research and movie buff has a hunch about Rivera’s note and death.
After Rivera disappeared and was found dead at the Belvedere Hotel in Baltimore in 2006, his wife discovered a hidden note that Rivera had left at his home. Police believed Rivera had committed suicide and interpreted the message as a suicide note. His last words included references to freemasons, to film director Stanley Kubrick, and countless films that moved the aspiring writer.
However, a user on the Unresvolved Mysteries subreddit questions the suicide theory and offers a new version of what actually happened, Newsweek reports. While Rivera listed multiple creative works that inspired him, one on the list stood out for the Reddit detective: The game.
“I am watching the Rey Rivera episode on Netflix and what really caught my attention was the note Rey wrote the day of his death and hid it behind the computer,” they wrote. “He had all these actor names, his friends and family, free bricklayer quotes and a list of movies. One of these movies was The game.
Immediately, I thought: OF COURSE! There’s a great scene at the end of the movie where the main character jumped off the roof (!) Of a fancy hotel and went through the (glass) roof. The similarities with Rey are really amazing. “
The game, which was released in 1997, stars Michael Douglas as an unhappy and wealthy executive whose life is turned around by an extraordinary birthday present from his brother, played by Sean Penn.
“The whole movie is about this crazy game organized by a company that makes you think you lose everything so you can appreciate life again,” explained the Reddit user. “Rey was a failed screenplay writer and maybe he got involved in [something] that he tried to imitate The game somehow.”
“In the episode you can see two transparent windows in the ceiling next to the hole caused by Rey,” they added. “Did you try to go through one of the windows like in The game?
While Rivera’s death is considered a suicide by investigators, her family is doubtful. Some inconsistencies, like Rivera’s unbroken cell phone and flip-flops on the hotel roof, made them wonder how he could have jumped, and some of his injuries are also inconsistent with the fall.
