Mayor Bill de Blasio postponed the painting of “Black Lives Matter” on Fifth Avenue in front of the Trump Tower on Thursday, a day after the president criticized Hizzoner for the plan.
“It has been postponed due to a change in programming,” a City Council spokeswoman told The Post.
“We will send more details in the coming days on a new date,” he said.
The only public event on the mayor’s schedule for Thursday is a press conference at 10 am from City Hall in Lower Manhattan.
The painting had been scheduled for 11 am Thursday, according to Michael Tucker, an activist who had been invited to the event along with about 40 or more participants.
Tucker learned of the cancellation early Thursday.
“I don’t know” why it was postponed, Tucker said. “I’m trying to figure that out myself.”
Jerome Barth, president of the Fifth Avenue Association, also received the 11 hour notice.
“The city alerted us last night that the mural would not advance today. We have no further details at this time, “Barth told The Post.
On Wednesday, Trump criticized the mayor for authorizing the movement’s motto painting in huge yellow letters on Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th streets, right in front of his Manhattan skyscraper.
“I was told that @ NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio wants to paint the legendary and beautiful Fifth Avenue, right in front of Trump Tower / Tiffany, with a big yellow sign from Black Lives Matter. ‘Pigs in a blanket, frying’ Em Like Bacon ‘, referring to killing the police, is his song. The NYPD is furious! The president tweeted.
