Dick Grayson may get a new place to hang his domino mask.
To the surprise of perhaps none, it turns out that all of the original DC Universe series moved to HBO Max, Jim Chief Content Officer Jim Lee shared in an interview published on Friday.
“The original content that is on DCU is migrating to HBO Max,” Lee shared in a THR Q&A attached to the larger shakeup and massive layoffs currently happening at the iconic publisher of comic books.
“Truly, that’s the best platform for that content,” Lee explained. “The amount of content you get, not just DC [shows], but overall from WarnerMedia, is enormous and it is the best value proposition. ”(HBO Max currently helps $ 14.99 / month, while DC Universe is $ 7.99.)
As for the digitized backlist of DC Comics stories that have survived the nearly two-year-old subscription service DC Universe, “there will always be a need for it. That we are excited to transform it and we will have more news have about what that looks like, “Lee said. “It will definitely not go away.”
Neither DC Universe nor HBO Max had any further comments on what Lee said.
The tea leaves that point to the transmogrification of DC Universe have been many, to begin with the decision to stream at the same time Doompatrol Season 2 on HBO Max, followed by the news that DC’s StargirlThe freshman run would get a second, broadcast window on The CW, just a day after each streaming debut.
Then in early July that was announced DC’s Stargirl was renewed a second season that would be an exclusive CW, and have no home on DC Universe. Two weeks later, DC Universe quietly unveiled its annual subscription plan, clearly indicating that its medium-term future was, at best, in flux.
What already has new seasons of DC Universe Originals in the hopper is its flagship live action series, Titans, was updated for Season 3 last November, while the animated Young justice was renewed more than a year ago for a fourth season. Harley Quinn, which ended Season 2 at the end of June (and is currently streaming on HBO Max), and Doompatrol (who streamed his ‘early’ sophomore finale on August 6), both awaiting their fate.
