He said he was reluctant to talk about it because he said he “did not want to get into the habit of getting attention for injuries.”
According to Shepard, he let some others pass by at Sonoma Raceway in California when he “braked hard enough that the rear wheel was well over 100 yards off the ground.”
“I was completely to blame,” he said. “I thought I could slip in between, but one turned her in and I was already under a lot of brakes and I couldn’t go any further.”
The “Top Gear America” star hit a bumper, flew over the steering wheel and landed hard.
Shepard said he wanted to continue driving, but it all turned out to be too painful. He found out why he once went to the hospital.
“The final count was four broken ribs, the collarbones are broken in three places and I need surgery,” Shepard said.
On Wednesday, he shared a photo of his bruises on his verified Instagram account.
“Thank you Armcherries for all the well-being and care,” reads the title. “I’m in one piece and spirits are high 🙂 Sorry for worrying.”
