THREE COVID-19 DEATHS AND 86 NEW CASES RENEWING SINCE FRIDAY CALL FOR SAFE PRACTICES IN HAWAII
(Honolulu) – A tragic reminder of the impact of COVID-19 on individuals and their families is the death of three more Hawaii residents from coronavirus. The Department of Health (DOH) Division of Disease Outbreak Control (DOCD) reports that an elderly resident of Kaua’i is the 22ndNorth Dakota COVID-19 recorded death. This person died out of state, in Arizona, where he had been receiving treatment for several months from underlying medical conditions. The 21S t DOCD also reported death over the weekend. This woman died in an O’ahu hospital on Sunday morning and had previously resided in a nursing home. Today DOCD confirmed the 20th death, which occurred on July 7th, like an elderly O’ahu with underlying medical problems. His death was added after a review of his health history and discussions with his primary care physician.
State Director of Health Dr. Bruce Anderson said, “We all express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of these three people. The best tribute to their lives and to the lives of the 22 people who have lost the fight against the coronavirus is to make everyone in Hawaii personally responsible for their own health and the health of everyone around them. ”
Most of the additional 86 cases reported since last Friday are in previous groups associated with “community spread.” For example, a total of 44 cases are associated with a training activity on Hawaiian Airlines, in which an infected person during these meetings is linked to a group of 20 cases involving two O’ahu gyms. According to state epidemiologist Dr. Sarah Park, “This clearly shows how easily and quickly this virus can spread from person to person and from place to place when people do not physically distance themselves, do not wear masks, do not stay home when sick and possibly not washing your hands frequently and completely. “Health experts urge people and our community at large to maintain safe practices and encourage others to do so to avoid a continuation of a spike in cases. Saturday it had the highest number of reported cases in a single day (42) since DOH began tracking cases in late February.
Other groups, where community spread is clearly the cause of additional cases, are pau hana meetings, businesses, urgent care and long-term care facilities, and household groups associated with social interactions (parties birthday, Father’s Day, 4).th July and religious functions).
“While most Hawaiian residents use safe practices, there are clearly some who don’t, and frankly, unless everyone pays attention, we will unfortunately continue to see diseases and deaths associated with COVID-19. Personal responsibility is how we will flatten the curve again and retain Hawaii’s leadership through this unprecedented public health crisis. The upward trend in cases not only affects people’s health, but will likely delay economic recovery of our state, ”Anderson said.
