Pokémon GO
It’s time for the second of our fan-voted Pokémon GO Community days as we sit here in the July heat waves. The first was Weedle, in June, a fun little Pokémon that managed to * worm * reach our hearts and Community Day. Next up is Gastly, who I always consider to be the most purely Phantom of all Ghost-type Pokémon, even though, on a technical level, he’s also Poison-type. Here’s what we need to know, from the date and time, to special moves, glitters, bonuses, and special research for the event: The Great Gastly.
Start date and time: Gastly Community Day will be held from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 19. These are the extended hours that keep large crowds from concentrating during the COVID-19 crisis. With the virus still in the United States and increasing cases in California, where Niantic is located, my grim prediction is that we’ll have these adaptations in the game for a while.
The Pokémon: Gastly is a ghostly little ball of power that evolves first into Haunter and then Gengar. Gengar has been a useful Pokémon for a long time, so it doesn’t hurt to grab more candy and form a team of ghosts. Gengar is not the most powerful Ghost-type attacker in the game, but he hits hard.
The movement: Any Gengar that has evolved during the event or up to two hours later will know Shadow Punch. The consensus seems to be that it won’t radically change Gengar’s performance in PvP or PvE, but it could help round things up and make Gengar a more capable fighter in PvP just by extending the move set.
Sparkly: I love this Shiny Gastly it’s kind of a deeper purple hue, and it continues this subtle change through Haunter and Gengar. The result is a kind of worthy Gengar, not the biggest change for shinies by far, but nonetheless remarkable. Here is an image of the Chrales family:
Investigation: We take a break with Weedle, but we’re back for Gastly. There is a special investigation for sale at the store called “The Great Gastly”. I like these things, and we’ll have more information for you when the research starts in New Zealand.
The bonus: We have 1/4 hatching distance on the eggs on Community Day. A nice bonus if you can get it to work, but it can be expensive to make the most of it. A special box in the store will contain 30 ultra balls, one elite fast TM, two incense and two super incubators, so that helps.
