Dash camera captures the moment an officer saves the life of a 3-week-old baby

The Sterling Heights Michigan Police Department posted the dashcam video of the heroic act on its Facebook page on Monday.

Officer Cameron Maciejewski is seen running to a call about a 3-week-old baby who is not breathing on July 9. The family bombs him when he gets home and the mother is frantic. Maciejewski calmly assures her and the rest of the family before asking about the girl.

He looks for signs of life before realizing that something is trapped in his airways. He turns her around when the baby’s mother hovers over him and pushes him a little before the baby starts crying.

The officer assures the family that the baby is fine when the mother falls to the ground in relief.

The baby was then released to the Sterling Heights Fire Department so that the child could be taken to the hospital for evaluation.

“If it weren’t for the quick, calm and life-saving actions of Officer Maciejewski, the result of this incident could have been tragically different,” the police department said.

“Not only did the officer save the baby, but he did an exceptional job comforting the family.”

Maciejewski attributes his quick thinking and ability to stay calm to his training.

“If I start to go crazy or if I can’t handle myself or my calm, it just increases everything for the family,” he said in an interview published on the department’s social media.
