Since testing began in March, Dare County has had 93 coronavirus cases, the vast majority since the Outer Banks reopened to visitors on May 16. County officials say between 150,000 and 200,000 are visiting the Outer Banks each week.

Health officials say Dare is experiencing the spread of the virus throughout the community, that many of the new cases don’t know how they got it.

A face mask mandate is in place at both the local and state levels in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
