Danbury Mayor sends back cabaret artist John Oliver – NBC Connecticut

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton shot back at John Oliver a week after the cabaret artist made some shots at Danbury on his HBO show “Last Week Tonight.”

During a segment on his August 16 appearance on racial differences in the jury’s selection process, Oliver mentioned issues that accidentally left Hartford and New Britain residents from jury pool lists years ago.

It was during his statement of what happened that he decided to zero in on Danbury.

“If you’ll forget a city in Connecticut, why not forget Danbury?” Said Oliver.

He then mentioned a series of positive aspects of Danbury, including the ‘charming railway museum’, Hearthstone Castle, and he even pointed out that in 2015 USA Today ranked Danbury as the No. 2 American city to live in.

Oliver ended his rant with some colorful language and a challenge.

“When you get out of there, you have a standing invitation to come from a thrashing of John Oliver – children included,” he said.

On Saturday, Mayor Boughton responded, announcing a plan to designate the city’s sewer installation as “John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant.”

“Because it’s full of c ** p, just like you, John,” Boughton said in a Facebook post.

Boughton also agreed with Oliver on the wonderful points that Danbury has to offer.

Now the mayor will have to wait to see if Oliver responds.
