Dan Meuser: Pennsylvania Congressman tests positive for Covid-19, will not vote on USPS funding

“As a member of Congress, I would like to inform you that I, unfortunately, tested positive for COVID-19,” Meuser said in a statement.

“Because of this, I will not be present today as voting on HR 8015. However, I will submit for the record that I would have voted ‘NAY’,” he said.

The House on Saturday night is set to vote on a bill that allocates $ 25 billion to the USPS and bans operational changes that have delayed the postal service around the country.

Meuser is simply the last member of Congress to test positive. Republican sen. Louisiana’s Bill Cassidy announced earlier this week that he had tested positive while GOP rep. Rodney Davis of Illinois announced that he tested positive earlier this month, as did Democratic Rep. Raúl Grijalva of Arizona did.

Meuser said he “has followed all CDC health and safety guidelines, and will take all necessary actions, including postponing upcoming public events and quarantining working from home until I get a negative test result.”

Chamber member Nancy Pelosi mandated wearing a mask on the floor of the House in July after GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas tested positive for coronavirus. The House Sergeant-at-arms also issued an additional set of rules “on the direction of the Speaker of the Second Chamber”, which require face covering in all office buildings of the House.
