The player who scored the last two touchdowns of the 2019 NFL season will not play at all in 2020.

The Chiefs announced Wednesday that running back Damien Williams decided not to play this year. He joins guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif as Chiefs players who have chosen not to participate this season.

“As an organization, we certainly understand and respect Damien’s choice, knowing that it was made in the best interest of his family,” Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach said in a statement. “It means a lot to our football team as a player and as a person, and we will miss having him around this season.”

Williams put the Chiefs ahead in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl with a five-yard touchdown catch and then extended his lead with a 38-yard swindler to the end zone. He had 711 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns in last year’s regular season.

Williams was heading into the final year of his contract and was planning to earn $ 1.85 million. Your contract will affect the 2021 season and you will receive an advance of $ 150,000 on your salary.

With Williams walking away, the Chiefs have first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Darwin Thompson and Darrell Williams as running back this year.
