EAGAN, Minn. – Negotiations over a contract extension between Dalvin Cook and the Vikings in Minnesota have reached an accident, several league sources told ESPN.
By removing changes, Cook, 25, is set to play out his $ 1.33 million rookie deal last year.
Minnesota expected an expansion to be completed prior to the start of official practices last week. Following the failure of a deal at a meeting with Cook’s representative in the Twin Cities area last Saturday, the Vikings intended to close negotiations ahead of the third day of padded practices.
With no deal in place, the Vikings choose to place negotiations for now, according to multiple sources.
Cook reported for training camp on July 28 and has attended all meetings and practices to date. Without an extension, the running back was limited to individual drills in the first day of refurbished practice on Monday and saw an increase in his workload during the team section on Tuesday. Cook is expected to progress fully in practice.
Sources indicate that the Vikings have not withdrawn their offer from Cook, but they do not intend to engage in further negotiations at this point. If the running back decides to play out the final year of his current deal, Minnesota will then have the option to place the franchise tag on him in the 2021 offseasons.
Cook was one of the league’s most productive running backs last season, recording the second-yardest of scrimmage per game, leading the NFL by 11.3 yards to the catches per reception, while recording a first-round pick at 40 , 6 percent of his goals, which was the third-highest mark of any running back with at least 30 goals, according to ESPN Stats and Information.
In June, Cook’s camp said the Vikings would keep running back from all future team activities until he got a “reasonable” deal. Last week, the running back rejected the notion he was not planning to see.
“No, that never came from me,” Cook said. “I love football, I love being with the boys. It’s like a stress reliever for me, just being on the field, being the boys, being in the locker room. That was never a thought.” I’m concerned. “
NFL Network first reported the impasse between Cook and the Vikings.
