ARLINGTON, Texas – Dak Prescott was hospitalized Sunday with a serious right ankle injury against the New York Giants that forced him to leave the game on a cart and in tears.
Prescott was injured with a 6.33 to play in the third quarter when the Giants were faced by defensive back Logan Ryan after a 9-yard run. Prescott’s ankle was dislocated while waiting for medical help.
AT&T Stadium was the best, as Prescott was examined by Cowboys medical staff for several minutes before heading to the cart.
Players from both teams, as well as former Cowboys coach and current Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, were reassuring Prescott as he went into great cheer. He raised his right hand in acknowledgment.
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones was shown standing in his suite, but was seen going downstairs to the locker room to check on the quarterback.
In 2018, Dallas wide receiver Alan Hearns suffered a displaced ankle in a wild-card playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks where Prescott was injured.
Andy Dalton replaced Prescott and helped end the scoring drive with a second touch of Ezekiel Elliott’s game to give the Cowboys a 31-23 lead.
Prescott started the season’s record setting with three straight games passing 450 yards. He entered the week with a cowboy quarterback in four games in the team’s history with the league’s best and most passing yard with 1,690 pass yards.
While the immediate concern is Prescott’s healthy, the future of the quarterback is also part of this equation.
He is playing on a one-year franchise tagg valued at Rs.43.4 million as he and the team could not reach an agreement on a long-term deal. The Cowboys offered Prescott a five-year deal with a guarantee of 34 34.5 million and more than $ 100 million per season, but he chose to play this season in the hope of a bigger commitment.
Prescott has been remarkably durable throughout his career.
