Dalai Lama releases his debut album ‘Inner World’ to commemorate his 85th birthday

The Tibetan spiritual leader, celebrating the milestone on Monday, hopes that “Inner World,” an album of Buddhist mantras and teachings, will provide some reassurance amid the chaos of the coronavirus pandemic and global protests sparked by the death of George Floyd. .

“Music has the potential to transcend our differences,” he said in a statement. “It can bring us back to our true good-hearted nature.”

He added: “The purpose of my life is to serve as much as I can. Music can help people in a way that I cannot.”

“Inner World” was inspired by New Zealand musician Junelle Kunin, who first approached the Dalai Lama to launch a collection of his mantras with music in 2015.

The project, which has 11 tracks of ambient and relaxing music, was recorded by Kunin and co-produced with her husband Abraham Kunin, who composed the music.

While this may be the Dalai Lama’s first bet on the charts, His Holiness is no stranger to the world of music.

In 2015, the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize appeared on stage at the Glastonbury Music Festival and conveyed a message about compassion and mutual understanding.
